Forgent Awarded New Patent on Echo Cancellation

AUSTIN, TX, Dec 16, 2005 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Forgent™ Networks (NASDAQ: FORG) today announced it has been awarded the United States Patent No. 6,968,064 (the '064 Patent) by the U.S. Patent Office, effectively serving to strengthen the company's intellectual property portfolio and support its strategy of increasing shareholder value through the licensing of patented technology. The '064 Patent is entitled "Adaptive Thresholds in Acoustic Echo Canceller for use During Double Talk" and relates generally to echo cancellation in audio and video systems.

To improve the quality of voice communication, an "echo canceller" is generally utilized to remove echoes and other background noises. This patent provides a method for canceling far endpoint echo signals in audio signals transmitted from a near endpoint to a far endpoint. More specifically, the '064 Patent is concerned with generating adaptive thresholds for use in an echo canceller in two-way audio and video systems.

Since its inception more than three years ago, Forgent's intellectual property program has generated more than $105 million in revenues primarily from licensing its technology to more than 50 different companies in Asia, Europe and the United States.
